Alexandre Hemery

Senior Product Designer

20 years’ experience in digital and print in France and internationally.

I have an excellent ability to translate concepts into visuals.

I’m interested in anything that can simplify and improve a customer’s daily life.

What I’ve been doing since 2019

I’m currently working within the Cegedim Group, which was founded over 50 years ago (5,800 employees, €616M turnover). Specifically, I’m part of the Cegedim Santé (Health Business Unit), which develops solutions for self-employed healthcare professionals.

I joined the team in a context where Sales and Tech teams were in charge of product design.

With the Head of Design, we led a change management process by refocusing design around user needs. We demonstrated the effectiveness of this approach through the commercial success of the solutions we worked on.

On the product discovery side

Shadowing

Self-employed healthcare professionals can be found in both urban and rural areas throughout France.

It’s important to meet them, as their geographical location has an impact on their organization, patient relations and business development.

Since 2019, we have been observing GPs, specialists, midwives, physiotherapists, nurses, speech therapists… but also healthcare structures such as Maison de Santé (which respond to medical desertification) or CPTS (collective structures enabling territories to better organize ambulatory healthcare provision).

Interview and micro persona

By going into the field, we discovered profiles that were all different at first glance.

But by using structured tools (question framework…) we were able to understand that they all had the same expectations.

Hot feedback

After each interview, we create a micro-persona that will serve as the foundation for the target’s persona.

More than 200 healthcare professionals met across France.

COLD feedback

An initial summary of the interviews is drawn up at the end of the day.

More than 55 semi-structured interviews conducted.
Duration 45/60 mn / 40 questions.

Putting the user at the heart of the solution

Cegedim Santé publishes over ten solutions for one hundred thousand healthcare professionals. More than eight hundred people in France, Egypt and Spain work on these software solutions.

Added to this is a lack of communication between the product, sales and marketing professions. Each had a different view of the user’s needs.

Thanks to the persona, we were able to :

  • align com, sales, tech and design teams with target understanding,
  • improve marketing and sales pitches,
  • facilitate solution design,
  • accelerate onboarding of new employees.
Customer target personas

We produced 1 persona for each business.

Construction of 14 personas, validated by healthcare professionals

Dialogue with the user

To harmonize the « tone of voice » used to address the user, we built the solution’s persona and a glossary, with concrete examples to empower PMs and UXs.

Mapping the experience

With so much in-house expertise and stakeholder input (influenced by our beta-tester friends) into the design process, road map priorities changed frequently.

By visually representing user needs, we were able to :

  • understand and share internally a clear vision of healthcare professionals’ needs and expectations,
  • convince stakeholders of the project’s success during the design and ideation phases.
1 – UNDERSTAND USER NEEDS

Each cartography is built and validated with our users, in focus groups.

1 persona = 1 user journey map

2 – design

Once the business mapping has been validated, we create the interface flows.

Each flow is designed to mirror the user’s needs.

Interfaces
Democratize, empower and accelerate with a design system

With the maturity of our design system, certain screens are developed based on wireframes.

We can thus:

  • relieve designers by prioritizing HD mock-ups of key screens,
  • speed up screen production by empowering PMs with wireframing.

A version of the design system components has been created on balsamiq.

Design standardization

Cegedim santé offers solutions that have been in existence for more than 20 years. The user experience within the same product is heterogeneous in both UX and UI.

With Maiia Gestion, we had the opportunity to demonstrate the benefits of a « by design » solution by building a robust design system.

Advantages of the design system for Cegedim Santé :

  • unify the user experience
  • improve communication between design & tech teams,
  • accelerate productivity.

+40 components created and kept up to date.

A design system for all teams

Built by the entire product team for the entire product team. (POs/PMs/PPOs, tech leads, scrum masters, dev and QAs).

All tech & design teams are certified on the design system.

AcCESSIBILITY

Creation of a high-contrast color palette, keyboard navigation and voice synthesis (ARIA tags + alternative text).

Over 2,000 physiotherapists in France are visually impaired or blind.

Design System scalability

With the scaling up of solutions, thanks to the growth context, the design system is deployed on 5 products (redesign or creation) from other BUs of the Cegedim group.

Between 2001 and 2016

2007 – 2016

I’ve been a freelance designer, helping entrepreneurs create and deploy their brand identity on print and web media. I’ve enjoyed working with architects, start-ups, communications agencies, associations, investors, hoteliers, wine producers…

2003 – 2007

I started my career as an Art Director in event communication, working with larges companies listed on the CAC 40 index (French stock market).

2001

And before all of this, I learned design at Penninghen (ESAG).

I think that users don’t like to see themselves using a computer to work, they like to see themselves doing their job.
